Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has showcased a prototype of a humanoid robot that, for the first time, "walked without a tether on stage" during the company's AI Day 2022. Named "Optimus", the robot has the same artificial intelligence (AI) software and sensors present in Tesla's advanced driver assistance system called'Autopilot' and may cost around $20,000. According to Musk, it was the first time it was working without "any support, cranes, mechanical mechanisms or cables". Musk told the audience late on friday that the humanoid robot is made for mass production in the "millions" of units. The robot contains a 2.3 kilowatt per hour battery pack which is "perfect for about a full day's worth of work", runs on a Tesla chip, and has Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity, reports The Verge.

Tech giant Microsoft is rolling out a new Dictate feature to OneNote that supports AI-powered voice commands to control dictation, such as deleting text or undoing a recent step. The AI-powered voice commands can be used to format and edit text, such as deleting a word or undoing a recent step, and the platform said it plans to add more voice commands to Dictate over the coming months, reports Windows Central. "Now it is easy to break away from the keyboard and stay in the flow by using Dictate with AI-backed voice commands to add, format, edit, and organise your text," Sofia Thomas, Product Manager of Microsoft's Office Voice Team was quoted as saying. "Over the next few months, we will be adding new voice commands as well as some that are already available in other Office apps to One Note," it added. Dictate works with over 50 languages and provides an alternative way to input text within OneNote.

Tech giant MetaAhas created a single artificial intelligence (AI)-based model capable of translating across 200 different languages, including many not supported by current commercial tools. According to The Verge, the company is open-sourcing the project in the hopes that others will build on its work. The AI model is part of an ambitious R&D project by Meta to create a so-called "universal speech translator," which the company sees as important for growth across its many platforms -- from Facebook and Instagram to developing domains like VR and AR. Machine translation not only allows Meta to better understand its users (and so improve the advertising systems that generate 97 per cent of its revenue) but could also be the foundation of a killer app for future projects like its augmented reality glasses. Experts in machine translation told the website that Meta's latest research was ambitious and thorough, but noted that the quality of some of the model's translations would likely be well below that of better-supported languages like Italian or German.

Artificial Intelligence has become so integrated into the technology stack that it goes largely unnoticed. When you take a picture with a newer iPhone, for instance, the phone collects a couple of frames and analyses it at the pixel level to identify what is in the scene and balance the exposure to produce a crisp, detailed final picture. All this happens in a fraction of the time it took you to read that sentence. Outside of turning you into a better photographer, AI is verifying your identity and enabling all the smart solutions that make your personal admin more convenient. There's an AI engine doing an instant credit assessment to approve your application in minutes.

Decision-makers are concerned about how the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology can negatively impact their brand and result in a loss of stakeholder and customer trust. In fact, research has shown that 56% of executives globally have slowed down their AI adoptions because of such fears. These concerns have given rise to the concept of Responsible AI (RAI). It refers to the way organisations use AI technologies, and the adherence to certain principles that relate to the greater good, the protection of individuals and their fundamental rights, and generally the trustworthiness of the AI application. While everybody has a role to play in RAI, business and public leaders are ultimately accountable to ensure that AI technologies are used responsibly.

Most of us take it for granted that we can read another person's emotions through subtleties such as body language, yet this is a real struggle for many others. Researchers at Stanford University modified Google's augmented reality glasses to read emotions in others and notify the wearer. The glasses detect someone's mood through their eye contact, facial expressions and body language, and then tell the wearer what emotions it's picking up. "Emotion AI taps into the individual," explains Zabeth Venter, CEO and co-founder of Averly. "If you think about facial recognition, which is a kind of emotion AI, I can pick up if you like what I'm saying by whether your smile is a smirk or a real genuine smile."

Responsible artificial intelligence (AI) provides a framework for building trust in the AI solutions of an organisation, according to a report from Accenture. It is defined as the practice of designing, developing, and deploying AI with good intention to empower employees and businesses, and fairly impact customers and society. In turn, this allows companies to stimulate trust and scale AI with confidence. With technology starting to become commonplace, more organisations around the world are seeing the need to adopt responsible AI. For example, Microsoft relies on an AI, Ethics, and Effects in Engineering and Research (Aether) Committee to advise its leadership on the challenges and opportunities presented by AI innovations. Some of the elements the committee examines is how fairly AI systems treat people, the reliability and safety of AI systems, how AI systems empower employees to engage with one other, and how understandable AI systems are.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has claimed that Artificial Intelligence will be'vastly smarter' than any human and would overtake us by 2025. "We are headed toward a situation where AI is vastly smarter than humans. I think that time frame is less than five years from now. But that doesn't mean that everything goes to hell in five years. It just means that things get unstable or weird," Musk said in an interview with New York Times over the weekend.
